Overview
Think Worksafe was appointed by the principal refurbishment contractor to install a complete roof access safety package at Warhammer World in Nottingham, the headquarters visitor attraction of Games Workshop. The building’s roofs needed safe, compliant access for ongoing maintenance, combining horizontal lifelines, fixed ladders, walkways and edge protection into one coherent system.
The works were completed across ten site visits between February and March 2026.
Scope and Challenges
The roofscape spans several levels and areas, each needing its own access arrangement. Three separate lifeline runs were required to protect operatives moving across the roofs, with stepped walkway sections linking different levels and two new wall mounted ladders providing vertical access between them.
Part of the existing provision also needed attention. Sections of walkway had been displaced or were missing altogether, leaving fixing holes that risked leaks into the building below, and existing edge protection had to be locally adapted to accommodate the new ladder positions.
The Solution
Our technician installed the three lifeline systems in sequence, setting posts and intermediates before cabling and tensioning each run. Two new fixed ladders were mounted to the walls, with the surrounding edge protection adjusted and reinstated so there is no longer any risk of a fall in the ladder access areas. Missing walkway sections were installed, older sections repositioned and re-fixed, and all redundant fixing holes were sealed to leave the roofs watertight. A stepped walkway with handrail completed the route across the crows nest section.
Results and Impact
Warhammer World now has a complete, compliant roof access system, three certified lifelines, safe vertical access via fixed ladders and continuous protected walkway routes. Maintenance teams can reach every roof area without temporary access equipment, and the reinstated walkways and sealed fixings have removed the leak risk to the visitor attraction below.
